Why Windchill Isn't Finished

When I came up with the idea of Windchill, I envisioned a quick production period of around a week. As you can tell, I was wrong. I realized I was trying to write in a style that doesn't fit the way I think. I was pantsing, writing without an outline or some other kind of plan. I've decided that my method is not so good, so I've decided to start a small outline before I finish writing the story. Sorry for the delay, I believe you deserve the best from me, so that's what I'll give. Look for further updates in the next few days. - Dylan

Next S.T.A.A.R. Universe Short Story

The next short story in the S.T.A.A.R. Universe will be titled Windchill . It will follow Operations Team Mike-16, which specializes in cold weather warfare, investigating reports from Assessment Team Peregrine-Crimson of potential alien activity near a remote Alaskan town. Once I start writing it, I'll be able to get a good estimate of when it will be completed. It will probably be a standard short story, rather than flash fiction like Orbital Drop was. Stay tuned for more info!

S.T.A.A.R.: Orbital Drop

S.T.A.A.R.:   Orbital Drop   Private First Class Cady sat in the passenger compartment of the S-7 Sub-Orbital Troop Transport. They had recently finished drop training, and this was their first combat drop. There was a war going on in Estonia, between loyalists and the coup led by General Cvetkov , and S.T.A.A.R. Intelligence Command had received reliable reports of alien technology being deployed by the General’s forces. Someone or something was supplying them with advanced technology, and Intelligence wanted to know who. Central Command subsequently authorized Bravo-2 to launch a night raid on known coup positions to recover information on how these were attained. Two four man elements were deployed, Cady’s being Alpha.   “Stand by, two mikes to drop.” said the Dropmaster , and the team got up and prepared to enter their drop chutes. The drop chute system was designed to allow the entire stick to deploy toward the DZ while the transport was in motion, rather than havi

S.T.A.A.R.: Area 51 is WIP on AO3!

Future Plans for the S.T.A.A.R. Universe

While I work on the adaptation of the 1995 Atari Games light gun arcade game Area 51, which S.T.A.A.R.  comes from, I will be posting short fiction, both short story and flash fiction (FF is typically 1,000 words or less) relating to my lore expansion.  Each story will focus on a specific Operations Team, providing a slice of life relating to what each one does. The next one will follow a rookie, Private First Class Cady of Operations Team Bravo-02, on their first sub-orbital combat drop. Look for its release sometime in the next few days. -           Dylan

S.T.A.A.R. Safehouse Raid

S. T.A.A.R.:   Safehouse Raid   S.T.A.A.R. Central Intelligence had received intel regarding a potential infiltration cell, sending it to Central Command. Command decided that the mission was too important to send in a generalized Operations Team. They called up Sierra-63, which specialized in small scale covert operations in urban environments. Sierra-63 had three elements, two four-man, and one command element. Command Sergeant Sam Carter, a 12-year veteran, had been Sierra-63s commanding officer for five of those years. He had seen combat in several small towns and a few cities, as well as working with many Operations Teams. They had been transferred overnight via private plane, and were currently en-route to where the intel said the safehouse would be, riding inside of a Lenco BearCat LE in the local police colors.   “All elements, listen up!” he said, gesturing toward the map placed on the partition between the driver and passenger section. “This floor plan wa
